Coppell Conservatory’s Musicianship and Performance Classes reflect the school’s Mission Statement which affirms that we provide to our students a quality music education. Instrumental instruction (Technique and Artistry) is complemented by musical instruction that includes music theory, music literature, music history, music analysis, composition, ear training, coordination, and performance.
In Performance Classes, students master the art of playing to an audience while developing their self-confidence, a skill they will apply in all other areas of their life. They are taught the etiquette of Performance as well as the etiquette of being a member of an audience. In the former, they learn what things to do (or not to do) and how to do them, in order to be a successful performer; in the latter, they learn the proper comportment, as well as how to understand and enjoy a concert or a recital. In addition, the format of the classes is similar to that of a Master Class, thereby giving students many of the benefits they would receive from a formal Master Class. An immediate application of this training is during the students’ Recitals, Festivals, and Contests. Performance Classes give them the opportunity to have several “rehearsals” before the actual events. They help ready students for the normal challenges associated with performing, such as overcoming stage fright (performance anxiety), being fully prepared, and stage presence. Every Performance class is small in size in order to give each student the required attention and to answer all questions that may arise.
